BigGerz
Linus Ostrander is the name under which BigGerz publishes its pages for readers in the United Kingdom. It is an editorial pseudonym chosen by our team, it does not belong to a person known to the public, and it carries no claim of professional qualifications, former employers or personal play. We use one name so that every page has one accountable editor, and the editor’s task is to see that what a page says matches what the sources show.
The role in plain terms
The editor decides which facts go on a page, in what order, and in which words. The editor also decides which facts stay out. A number that cannot be confirmed does not appear, however useful it might look in a table.
The editor does not play on behalf of readers, does not report personal deposits or withdrawals, and does not claim to have tested the cashier. Statements about processing times and offer terms come from the sources ranked in the method.
Method: from source to sentence
- Collect. For each page we gather the offer terms of the casino and independent reviews of it.
- Record. Every figure is entered in a dossier with its source and the date on which it was read.
- Compare. A figure is printed only when at least two independent publishers agree on it, or when the offer terms state it.
- Resolve. Where sources differ, the figure is left out or the rule is described without a number.
- Write. The sentence is drafted from the dossier entry, and nothing is added that the entry does not support.
- Check. A second reading compares each number on the page with the dossier.
- Date. The page is published with the date of its review in our records.
Source ranking
| Source type | Used for | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Offer terms of the casino | Offer terms, fees, deadlines | Decisive when readable |
| Independent reviews of the casino | Studios, payment methods, support channels | Needs two agreeing publishers |
| Public helpline websites | Telephone numbers and names of services | Taken from the service itself |
| Single reviews | Context only | Not printed as fact |
One figure traced from start to finish
The 8% charge on a withdrawal of an unplayed deposit shows the method at work. It was first noted in a review published by The Spike. A second independent publisher, the LCB review site, gave the same percentage, which met the rule of two agreeing sources, so the figure entered the dossier. The lcb review also mentions a minimum fee, but states its amount only in euros, so the pages say that a minimum fee applies and print no figure. The condition attached to it, that the deposit has not been wagered at least once, was recorded together with the figure, because a percentage without its condition misleads. The sentence on the page repeats both, and the example of a £200 deposit and a £16 charge, labelled as an illustration, was calculated from them and checked a second time.
A figure that fails the rule follows a different path. The minimum amount of a single e-wallet payment appeared in only one source and in another currency, so it was left out and the page tells the reader to look at the cashier.
Figures we do not print
Some figures differ widely between publishers. The size of the game library is reported anywhere from a little over five thousand titles to well above eight thousand, so we write only that the lobby holds more than 5,000. Contribution rates of live and table games differ between sources, so we say that they count at a reduced share. The per-stake ceiling on bonus play is not given in pounds in the sources, so we say how it works and send readers to the offer terms for the amount.
Which pages are reread first
Offer terms, payment methods and processing times change more often than the description of a game category, so these are reread first when we review a page. Descriptions of studios and categories are reread when the lobby changes. Service pages, such as the privacy notice and the terms, are reread when a page of the site changes a practice that they describe.
Language and amounts
Pages for the United Kingdom use British spelling and amounts in pounds sterling. Worked examples, such as the stake volume needed to complete a bonus, are arithmetic that readers can repeat; they are labelled as examples and they are not forecasts.
When a reader finds an error
If a reader finds a statement that does not match the casino, a correction is made as follows.
- The reader writes to [email protected] with the page and the passage.
- The editor compares the passage with the dossier and the current terms.
- If the page is wrong, the sentence is corrected, and the dossier is updated.
- If the current terms have changed, the page is updated to the new terms.
The offer terms and cashier terms apply while a correction is made.
How the pages treat gambling
Our pages do not describe gambling as income, as a method of recovering losses or as a skill that guarantees results. Every page that mentions an offer states its wagering terms and the right to decline. Independent services for people affected by gambling are named on our responsible gambling page, including the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133.
What readers may ask
Readers may ask where a figure comes from, why a number is missing or whether a page is still current. We answer such questions from the dossier and tell the reader which part of the offer terms or cashier to check. A question about the reader’s own account is passed to the support team, since the editor has no access to member accounts.
What the editor leaves out
The editor writes for readers of the pages. A page does not hide a restriction in order to make an offer look larger, and a fee or exclusion is stated at the point where the offer is described.
What the signature does not cover
The signature covers the text of the page. It does not cover the games themselves, whose rules and return figures belong to their studios, and it does not decide a dispute about an account; those go to our support team.
